I had the pleasure of interviewing Tamara Perry, Sr. Technical Talent Acquisition Specialist at CLARK, one of the fastest growing insurtechs in Europe.
Thank you so much for joining us!
I have always been fascinated by technology, although I have never pursued a hands-on technical role. One of my earliest memories of tech was an intro to coding class in high school, and I hated it. All of my classmates, particularly the male ones, seemed to grasp the concepts much faster than I.
On the other hand, I have always excelled as a recruiter because of my natural curiosity to understand the technologies my candidates work with. So I believe that this, along with my natural ability to connect with others, eventually led me into technical recruitment.
I think what excites me most about tech recruiting is the connections I get to make with IT professionals within a variety of roles and professional levels.
One of the biggest challenges I have experienced in tech recruitment is establishing credibility with candidates and internal stakeholders (hiring managers).
As a “non-technical” technical recruiting professional, this is an absolute must, as I have to understand, at least on a functional level, what my candidates do and what my hiring managers need for their teams.
Honestly, I think the future is already here. At the beginning of my career, I remember when the vast majority of my job requests were based locally, oftentimes within the same metro area. Of course, now, with the advent of the pandemic, this post-Covid-19 economy has become unlimited by geography out of necessity.
I believe one of the biggest challenges with this situation is effectively attracting and engaging top industry talent despite the physical distance between the recruiter and candidate, whether that be international borders or even just the computer screen.
The only constant is change is a phrase I learned a while ago, and it really is true, especially within this career path.
